Ukrainian officials said early Thursday morning that Russia had fired several missiles at targets inside Ukraine, including the capital Kyiv.
Kyiv's military governor, Timur Tkachenko, wrote on Telegram: "The enemy is attacking the capital with ballistic missiles."
Several explosions were heard in central Kyiv, according to a correspondent for the German news agency dpa.
Ukraine's air force said at least 2 missiles were heading toward Kyiv, while another missile was directed at the Poltava region in the centre of the country.
