Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said late Sunday (Monday local time) that the United States and Iran had reached an agreement to end their war, noting that a formal signing ceremony would be held on Friday in Switzerland.
Shortly after Sharif's announcement, Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform: "The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now complete."
The deal was reached despite Israeli strikes on Lebanon on Sunday, which drew criticism from both Iran and Trump.
The specific terms of the agreement have not yet been made public.
Sharif said the deal calls for "an immediate and permanent halt to military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon." Earlier, multiple sources told Reuters that a draft of the agreement would lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, an end to the US blockade of Iranian ports, and an extension of the ceasefire, while deferring discussion of Iran's nuclear programme for a period of 60 days of talks. In his social media post, Trump said the strait would be open "without payment of transit fees" and that the American naval blockade would also end.
He added: "Ships of the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow!"
