A humanoid robot has successfully reached the summit of a peak rising more than 6,000 metres — the highest volcano in Ecuador — where it performed a victory dance. The robot, named Pemba, took part in an exploratory expedition to the summit of Chimborazo volcano, Ecuador's highest volcano at 6,263 metres, reaching the top without suffering any malfunctions or being stopped by the obstacles it encountered, and even performed a symbolic "victory" dance at the summit.

The developers explained that the robot, which weighs 35 kilograms, was equipped with a special jacket and footwear suited to mountain conditions, as noted in a Russia Today report.

The developers said the expedition aimed to test the robot's technology under the harsh conditions of extreme high altitudes, noting that the ascent cannot be considered fully autonomous, as the robot traversed the most difficult icy and rocky sections with the assistance of expedition members.

Nevertheless, they confirmed that it succeeded in overcoming the many challenges posed by the summit.
