The Guinness World Records website has announced that British farmer Graham Barratt, from Gloucestershire, England, has set a new world record after successfully growing the largest elephant garlic bulb in the world.

The bulb weighed 1.75 kilograms and measured 19 centimetres in diameter. It was displayed at the Wargrove Plant Centre in Berkshire on 25 June, where it was officially certified as the heaviest garlic bulb ever recorded.

Barratt explained that he has been growing elephant garlic for nearly a decade, selecting the largest cloves to replant each following season.

He noted that the record-breaking specimen had been planted in September 2025, and that the measures he took to protect it from frost contributed to its unexpectedly large growth.

He added that this record is part of his broader interest in growing giant crops; on the same day, he also set another world record for the heaviest snow pea pod in the world, which weighed 28 grams.

Elephant garlic is a large-variety garlic distinguished by its oversized cloves compared with conventional varieties. It is used in cooking and is cultivated in a number of countries for commercial purposes and by gardening enthusiasts.
