Mansour Al Housani, a bachelor's student majoring in horticulture at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine at the United Arab Emirates University, has transformed his university years into a journey of academic, research, and leadership achievements, combining academic excellence with community work and representing the country at regional and international forums.
He has been able to leverage the academic and research opportunities provided by the university to contribute to the development of scientific solutions serving the agricultural sector and supporting the UAE's goals in sustainability and food security.
Al Housani's experience has not been limited to academic study; he has participated in a number of research projects addressing challenges facing the agricultural sector. These include a study on the role of symbiotic root fungi in enhancing carbon sequestration in native plants under the UAE's environmental conditions, as well as a project to characterise and preserve date palm pollinators in support of the sustainable production of this strategic crop.
His graduation project focused on climate-smart production of wheat using biological solutions that contribute to enhancing stress resistance and improving productivity in arid environments, in support of food security efforts and in response to the challenges of climate change.
His research endeavours have yielded several scientific achievements, including his team's joint first-place finish in the scientific poster competition at the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, in addition to second place in the oral presentations competition at the Student Food Security Summit.
On the student activity front, Al Housani served as president of the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine club, leading a number of initiatives and events aimed at raising students' awareness of sustainability, food security, and community responsibility, while encouraging them to participate in scientific and volunteer activities and linking academic knowledge to practical application. His role also stood out at the national level through his membership in the UAE Youth Agriculture Council.
