The summer "Rawayeh" rains fell yesterday across parts of Fujairah and Khor Fakkan amid a spell of weather turbulence that swept through areas of the eastern coast, extending to the roads leading to Fujairah and the surrounding mountain regions.
In the height of summer, the rainfall helped ease the intense heat and refreshed the area, contributing to a noticeable drop in temperatures and offering residents a welcome respite after the scorching conditions of recent days.
Several areas of the Emirate of Fujairah and the eastern coastal cities witnessed the formation of dense clouds and cumulonimbus formations, resulting in rainfall of varying intensity that cast a cloudy and refreshing atmosphere over the region, with precipitation concentrated along the mountain roads and surrounding highlands.
On Shees Street in Khor Fakkan, the scene presented a striking natural tableau as rain fell over the mountains and roads, while on Sheikh Khalifa Street a number of drivers pulled over at designated stopping points to enjoy and document the spectacle.
Social media platforms were soon filled with clips capturing moments of the blessed rainfall. The "Rawayeh" rains are considered a seasonal phenomenon in the eastern regions, forming as a result of cumulonimbus clouds generated by the mountainous terrain and rising temperatures, which help to cool the atmosphere during the summer season.
