Abu Dhabi continues to cement its position as a regional and global hub for advanced healthcare through the development of specialised medical infrastructure aligned with the emirate's targets for raising healthcare quality and promoting medical tourism. The Specialist Rehabilitation Hospital, part of Capital Health, has announced the laying of the foundation stone for a major expansion project that will make it the largest integrated rehabilitation hospital in the United Arab Emirates, with the new facility set to begin operations by the end of 2028.
The foundation-stone ceremony was attended by Dr Faiza Al Yafei, Executive Director of the Healthcare Quality Sector at the Abu Dhabi Department of Health; Abu Bakr Al Khouri, Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi Capital Group; Khalifa Al Mazrouei, Head of Investment at Abu Dhabi Capital Group; Dr Mishal Al Qasimi, Chief Executive Officer of the Specialist Rehabilitation Hospital and Health Shield Medical Centre; along with members of senior management and hospital staff.
The project embodies Abu Dhabi's drive to strengthen its specialised healthcare system and expand its medical rehabilitation capabilities through the construction of a state-of-the-art facility adjacent to the hospital's existing building. The new facility will incorporate inpatient rehabilitation services, specialist outpatient clinics, orthopaedic and musculoskeletal care, neurosciences, sports medicine, physical medicine, and cardiac rehabilitation, within an integrated care model that delivers therapeutic and rehabilitative services under one roof.
Abu Bakr Al Khouri said that investment in the healthcare sector plays a pivotal role in deepening the resilience and future-readiness of the health system, affirming that the expansion of the Specialist Rehabilitation Hospital reflects confidence in Abu Dhabi's vision for specialised healthcare and a commitment to supporting institutions capable of entrenching excellence, retaining complex care services within the United Arab Emirates, and delivering sustainable value for patients and the community.
The expansion works are expected to be completed and operational by the end of 2028, raising the hospital's capacity to more than 230 inpatient rehabilitation beds, more than 30 outpatient clinics and treatment rooms, and approximately 12 rehabilitation halls in the Beit Al Qudra sports facility, making it the largest integrated rehabilitation hospital in the UAE and home to the greatest number of inpatient rehabilitation beds, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, and rehabilitation halls under one roof in the country.
