His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has issued an Emiri decree appointing a chairperson for the Sharjah Museums Authority. The decree stipulates that Her Highness Sheikha Hoor bint Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi be appointed chairperson of the Sharjah Museums Authority.

Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi also issued a decree-law amending Law No. 7 of 2020 on the organisation of the Sharjah Museums Authority. The decree stipulates that the Authority shall be headed by a chairperson appointed by Emiri decree.

Under the decree, the Authority shall have a director general appointed by Emiri decree, assisted by a sufficient number of staff and experts in accordance with its organisational structure. The director general shall hold the powers and authorities necessary to manage the Authority's affairs and take the decisions required to achieve its objectives, and shall in particular be empowered to:

  • Propose the general policy and strategy required to achieve the Authority's objectives and submit them to the Authority's chairperson for approval before presenting them to the Executive Council of the Emirate of Sharjah for adoption or further action.
  • Propose draft laws, decisions, and executive or regulatory regulations related to the Authority's work, and present them to the chairperson for approval before referring them to the Council.
  • Supervise the conduct of work at the Authority in accordance with applicable legislation and regulations, and follow up on the implementation of administrative decisions issued by the chairperson.
  • Prepare the Authority's annual budget and final accounts and submit them to the chairperson for approval in accordance with established procedures.
  • Form permanent and temporary committees and working groups under the Authority, and define their terms of reference and working procedures, subject to the chairperson's approval.
  • Represent the Authority before governmental and private bodies and in its relations with others, with the authority to delegate any person or entity to represent the Authority before the judiciary.
  • Sign contracts, agreements, memoranda of understanding, and partnerships concluded by the Authority, subject to the chairperson's approval and adoption by the Council.
  • Seek assistance from governmental bodies for administrative and technical support.

The director general may engage specialists, consultants, and expert firms in all matters related to the Authority's work, and may cooperate with competent bodies on matters falling within the Authority's objectives and jurisdiction. The director general may also delegate appropriate Authority staff with some of his powers or competencies in accordance with applicable legislation in the emirate, and shall carry out any other tasks assigned by the chairperson.
