His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has directed the Sharjah Institute for Heritage to expand, restore and revive 'Souq Sharq' in Khor Fakkan under a new identity bearing the name 'Buyoot Al Harafiyeen' (Artisans' Houses).
'Buyoot Al Harafiyeen' will be a destination hosting craftspeople specialising in teaching traditional crafts, and will offer sessions for the public with the aim of enhancing the aesthetic character of Khor Fakkan's waterfront, contributing to the preservation of cultural heritage and enriching the city's tourism and heritage assets.
Separately, Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, issued a law regulating the drone sector in the Emirate of Sharjah.
The provisions of the law apply to all types of unmanned aircraft regardless of the control systems used or the nature of their use, to areas within the emirate's borders including free zones and special development areas, and to individuals and entities — both public and private — who operate or use drones within the emirate's borders.
The law stipulates that prior authorisation from the Department of Civil Aviation is required to operate drones in the emirate for the following activities: government activities, commercial activities, scientific and research activities, entertainment, hobby and air sports activities, and media activities.
Under the law, an owner is required to register a drone with the Department of Civil Aviation or the General Civil Aviation Authority before beginning operations, in accordance with approved terms and conditions. No person may operate a drone or conduct operational trials unless it is clearly marked with registration numbers or codes, or any other means of identification and distinction specified by the Department or Authority.
