5.3 million identity and residency transactions processed in first quarter

The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security has announced the completion of more than 5.3 million transactions related to identity cards for citizens and residents, as well as the issuance and renewal of residency permits for residents during the first quarter of 2026. The figures reflect the efficiency of the digital system the authority relies on to deliver its services and the speed with which transactions are processed for citizens and residents through its smart electronic channels.

Data from the authority covering the period from January to March 2026 showed that 349,892 new identity cards were issued to citizens and residents, meeting growing demand for registration and identity card services, alongside the renewal of 1,347,322 identity cards. The authority completed the issuance of 1,074,109 new residency permits for residents, while 792,115 residency permits were renewed during the first three months of the year, reflecting the volume of activity linked to the labour market and residency in the country and the continued growth in demand for the authority's services.

These figures highlight the scale of operations managed by the authority on a daily basis, underpinned by a sophisticated electronic system that allows customers to complete various procedures with ease, without needing to visit service centres except in cases that require it — reducing time and effort and raising customer satisfaction levels.

January saw the issuance of 138,673 new identity cards, 444,999 identity card renewals, the issuance of 396,348 residency permits, and the renewal of 282,679 residency permits. February recorded the renewal of 414,164 identity cards, the issuance of 120,150 new cards, the issuance of 366,348 residency permits, and the completion of 261,434 residency renewal transactions.
