The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has confirmed that the emirate's roads are seeing continuous improvements and comprehensive development works throughout July, aimed at enhancing the flow of movement and ensuring smooth journeys to various destinations.
This is being achieved through the implementation and opening of more than 10 traffic and development projects across a number of vital areas, as part of its plans to keep pace with rapid urban and population growth, raise the efficiency of the road network and infrastructure, enhance quality of life, and uphold Dubai's standing as one of the world's leading cities in the transport sector.
The RTA explained that the projects currently under way are distributed across a number of key corridors and roads. They include rapid traffic improvements on Ras Al Khor Street towards Al Khail Street, aimed at increasing capacity and improving traffic flow, as well as traffic improvements on Al Marabea Street in Al Quoz to facilitate entry and exit movements and reduce waiting times.
In addition, a free-right-turn movement is being implemented from Al Thuwaima Street to the service road on Sheikh Zayed Road, contributing to traffic flow and reducing congestion.
The works also include traffic improvements on Latifa Bint Hamdan Street, and the development of the Ras Al Khor intersection with the Dubai–Al Ain Road through the addition of a new traffic lane to increase capacity and improve vehicle movement during peak hours.
Further works include the opening of dedicated parking for Horizon International School in Umm Al Sheif, which will help organise vehicle movement and enhance the safety of students and parents.
The projects also encompass the opening of truck rest-stop parking in Hind City to support the heavy transport sector and provide a suitable environment for truck drivers, the opening of new surface car parks in Al Barsha 1 South First to meet growing parking demand in the area, and the opening of the connecting road between Al Qudra Street and Hessa Street adjacent to Motor City, which improves connectivity between residential areas and main roads and provides alternative routes for vehicles.
As part of its strategic projects, the RTA announced the award of the contract for the Latifa Bint Hamdan Street corridor development project, which is considered an important project aimed at raising traffic efficiency and enhancing connectivity between a number of vital corridors, in support of Dubai's future road network development plans.
The RTA noted that during the previous month it continued to implement another package of projects, completing more than 6 traffic projects that included improvements to the entrance of Nad Al Sheba Council, and improvements at the intersection of Commercial Centre Street with Marasi Drive.
These also included the provision of an additional lane towards Financial Centre Street, traffic improvements at the intersection of Airport Street with Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, the opening of the connecting road between Emirates Street and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Street opposite the Arabian Ranches 3 and Villanova areas, as well as the opening of a new bridge towards Dubai Harbour, contributing to enhanced traffic flow and serving the urban and tourism projects in those areas.
