The Women and Child Protection Department of the General Directorate of Human Rights at Dubai Police has stressed the importance of direct and continuous supervision of children near swimming pools or beaches during the summer holiday period, when demand for water activities increases, warning that even a brief lapse in supervision can lead to serious drowning incidents.
The department called on parents not to leave children alone in or near pools or on beaches, and not to rely on flotation devices or the presence of lifeguards as a substitute for direct supervision, while also emphasising the need to choose safe swimming locations and adhere to preventive instructions and guidelines.
It noted that child drowning incidents can occur within seconds and in silence, without those nearby noticing the danger, making it essential for an adult to remain close to children throughout the entire time they are in the water.
The department affirmed that prevention begins with awareness and commitment to safety procedures, calling on families to take the necessary measures to ensure their children's safety and enjoy a safe summer holiday.
