Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has called on residential customers to take proactive measures before travelling, in order to maintain efficient electricity and water consumption during their absence, ensure early intervention, and reduce waste at all times. Customers can make use of DEWA's digital services to remotely monitor their electricity and water consumption while away on summer holidays and detect any unusual changes at an early stage.

This comes as part of DEWA's annual summer awareness campaign under the slogan "Enjoy a Sustainable Summer This Year", in which the authority confirmed that the "Away from Home" feature — available via DEWA's website and smart app — gives customers peace of mind while travelling.

The feature allows customers to monitor their electricity and water consumption from anywhere in the world through daily and weekly reports and charts delivered to their email, helping them track any change in consumption and take appropriate action when needed.

DEWA recommended that customers take a number of proactive steps, including shutting off the main water supply, inspecting internal connections, and enlisting a qualified technician to carry out periodic maintenance of electricity and water systems when required.

The authority also advised customers to disconnect non-essential electrical appliances and avoid leaving them on standby, clean air-conditioning filters regularly, ensure doors and windows are properly sealed to maintain cooling efficiency, and consider using solar-powered water heaters.

DEWA urged customers to periodically inspect tanks, taps, water heaters, and internal connections, and to repair any leak as soon as it is discovered.

The authority also provides a "High Water Consumption Notification" service, which sends real-time alerts when an unusually high increase in water consumption after the meter is detected.
