Dubai Municipality has announced that Jumeirah 2 beach has received the Gold Accessibility Accreditation from the World Disability Union, making it the first beach in Dubai to earn this prestigious accreditation.
The achievement recognises the municipality's commitment to providing a safe, inclusive, and fully accessible environment for people of determination, in line with international accessibility standards and the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
The Gold Accessibility Certificate was awarded following the implementation by Dubai Municipality of a comprehensive accessibility enhancement programme completed in a record period of no more than 6 months, transforming Jumeirah 2 beach into one of the most inclusive beach destinations in the region.
The programme encompassed infrastructure development, the provision of specialised accessibility solutions, staff training, and the enhancement of operational readiness.
As part of the accreditation requirements, dedicated parking spaces for people of determination, equipped pathways and ramps, accessible toilet and shower facilities, and wheelchair charging stations were all provided.
One of the key factors that contributed to securing the Gold Accreditation was the establishment of a dedicated sensory room, making Jumeirah 2 beach the first beach destination in the Middle East to offer such a facility.
Engineer Ibrahim Mohammed Jumaa, Director of the Public Beaches and Waterways Department at Dubai Municipality, said the international recognition reflects the municipality's commitment to ensuring that public beaches are accessible, inclusive, and welcoming spaces for all.
