The United Arab Emirates is marking World Engineering Day, observed annually on 23 June, by celebrating the qualitative achievements of Emirati women in the engineering sector and their ability to turn challenges into inspiring success stories in the service of their country and its journey of comprehensive development.

In this context, the Women's Committee at Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) organised a series of dialogue sessions, interactive activities, competitions and varied events at the Al Shera'a building, with the participation of more than 60 female employees from across the authority's various sectors.

His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, praised the authority's female engineers, commending their remarkable ability to transform challenges of all kinds into inspiring and ambitious success stories.

He noted that DEWA's sustained support for its female engineers has strengthened their role across all future fields and sectors, and enhanced their contribution to the authority's achievements and its globally pioneering projects, including the Al Shera'a building — the world's tallest, largest and smartest net-positive energy government building.

He affirmed that the distinctive model Dubai has established in embedding women's contribution to building the nation's future reflects the emirate's success in investing in human development and the significant progress it has made towards achieving its national goals of becoming a global hub for opportunity, growth and sustainable development.

Engineer Amal Koushak, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Communication, said: "Female engineers are no longer merely partners in project execution — they are also partners in shaping the future, as DEWA's women professionals lead pioneering projects and initiatives in the fields of clean and renewable energy, water, sustainability, artificial intelligence and smart cities."

Dr Aisha Al Nuaimi, Vice President of the Sustainability and Innovation Centre, explained that DEWA provides its female employees with opportunities, the latest technologies and an environment that fosters innovation, helping them make a sustainable impact at both the national and global level.

Fatima Mohammed Al Jawker, Chairwoman of the authority's Women's Committee, pointed to the launch of programmes and initiatives aligned with DEWA's development priorities and tailored to the needs and roles of its female staff.

Emirates Global Aluminium, the largest industrial company in the United Arab Emirates outside the oil and gas sector, announced yesterday that women now account for 25% of supervisory positions at the company, coinciding with the occasion.
