Dubai Municipality inspection teams have carried out 358 supervisory visits to more than 300 establishments handling children's toys in the emirate since the beginning of this year, with the rounds focused on verifying that children's toys comply with approved requirements.

The inspections also covered other categories of consumer products, such as cosmetics and electrical appliances that may accompany or be classified as toys, ensuring they meet approved specifications.

Dr Naseem Rafie, Acting Executive Director of the Environment, Health and Safety Corporation at Dubai Municipality, said: "The inspection mechanism at entry points involves examining incoming shipments and permitting only those products that meet health and safety requirements to be traded."

"In addition, periodic inspections are carried out at licensed establishments in the local market and licensed or registered e-commerce platforms. This is supported by laboratory testing when needed to verify product compliance with approved specifications, and by conformity certificates issued by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology for products subject to technical regulations."

She added: "254 children's toys have been withdrawn under the periodic sample-testing programme from incoming shipments and local market establishments since the beginning of this year." She noted that Dubai Municipality received only 2 complaints related to the safety of children's toys during this period, and that both were handled in accordance with approved regulatory procedures, through verification of the complaints and inspection of the relevant products or establishments.
