Abu Dhabi Criminal Court has issued a conviction against a defendant who deliberately committed an act endangering the lives of others by driving a vehicle on a public road in a reckless and heedless manner, swerving repeatedly and without warning, putting his own life and the lives of others at risk.
The court sentenced the convicted man to 6 months in prison and fined him AED 50,000 on the charge brought against him, in addition to a further fine of AED 20,000 representing the estimated value of the vehicle used in the crime — as it was established that the vehicle was owned by another person — bringing the total amount of the judgment to AED 70,000, along with a one-year suspension of his driving licence to take effect after the sentence is served.
The Abu Dhabi Public Prosecution had referred the defendant to the competent court immediately after the relevant police authorities completed the arrest and investigation procedures, following the detection of his reckless conduct on the public road and his deliberate repeated swerving of the vehicle, which constituted a direct threat to the safety of road users. The court based its conviction on the evidence and proof contained in the case file.
