The United Arab Emirates warned, during the UN Security Council's open debate on conflict-related sexual violence, of the rising number of sexual violence cases in conflict zones and the growing range of parties involved.
Her Excellency Ambassador Ghassaq Shaheen, Deputy Permanent Representative of the UAE Mission to the United Nations, condemned these crimes in the strongest terms, stressing the need to adopt survivor-centred responses, strengthen accountability, and maintain protection during the transition of peacekeeping missions.
The Ambassador also strongly rejected the allegations made against the UAE by the representative of the Port Sudan authority, pointing to that authority's involvement in violations documented in the UN Secretary-General's report, and calling on it to stop evading responsibility and to engage in good faith in diplomatic efforts to end the war and alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.
