Dubai Municipality has announced the provision of lightweight, innovative electric bicycles for sanitation engineers, aimed at supporting field cleaning operations and waste collection in residential areas with greater efficiency and speed. The move comes within the framework of Dubai Municipality's efforts to enhance the sustainability of the city's cleanliness and consolidate reliance on environmentally friendly equipment, contributing to improved air quality, reduced carbon footprint, and support for green initiatives.

Dubai Municipality explained that the new electric bicycles feature advanced technical specifications designed specifically to suit the operational field environment. The bicycle reaches a maximum speed of 45 km/h, providing high flexibility for rapid movement between residential neighbourhoods. The bicycle is also equipped with a storage container with a capacity ranging from 180 to 240 litres, carrying approximately 90 kilograms of waste per round. The bicycle is lightweight and environmentally friendly, and operates on advanced lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 125 ampere-hours, enabling continuous operation for between 8 and 10 full hours on a single charge — sufficient to cover an entire work shift without the need for recharging. The bicycle is distinguished by its light weight of 315 kilograms (including the battery), making it a safe and agile means of transport on roads and narrow passages.
Environmental impact
Dubai Municipality noted that these bicycles contribute to achieving a three-dimensional environmental impact based on reducing the carbon footprint of cleaning operations by 100%, supporting and expanding the scope of green initiatives, and improving air quality in residential areas by completely eliminating gaseous emissions.
