The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has announced the appointment of Dr. Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, Head of Cybersecurity for the UAE Government, as Chair of the Arab Regional Group of Study Group 17 of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (SG17RG-ARB), following the conclusion of the group's virtual meeting on Arab states on 18 May 2026.
Study Group 17 of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector is the international body responsible for information security standardization. It works to develop global standards in the fields of cybersecurity, identity management, privacy, and emerging technologies, and plays a pivotal role in linking regional cybersecurity priorities with the international standards that underpin a secure and trusted digital future.
Dr. Al Kuwaiti has an extensive track record in leading cybersecurity efforts at both the national and international levels. He has contributed to establishing the UAE's standing as a globally recognized cyber power and has spearheaded efforts to strengthen regional cooperation across the Arab world.
