The Emirates Pharmaceutical Establishment has announced its approval of the drug Jascayd, containing the active substance Nerandomilast, indicated for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF) in adult patients. The move reinforces the framework for making modern therapies available and supports the advancement of healthcare standards.

Jascayd is an innovative treatment that works through selective inhibition of the phosphodiesterase-4B (PDE4B) enzyme, helping to slow the decline in lung function in patients with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis and progressive pulmonary fibrosis.

The regulatory approval followed a comprehensive scientific and regulatory assessment conducted by the Emirates Pharmaceutical Establishment, encompassing a review of the product's quality, safety, and efficacy, along with supporting clinical data. It was based on the findings of clinical studies that demonstrated the treatment's ability to reduce the rate of lung function decline in patients with these conditions.

The UAE thus becomes the first country in the region and the third in the world to approve this treatment, after the United States and China. This reflects the efficiency of the national regulatory system and its capacity to accelerate the evaluation and approval of pharmaceutical innovations in accordance with the highest internationally recognised scientific standards.

The Emirates Pharmaceutical Establishment underscores the importance of early diagnosis and regular follow-up for those with chronic pulmonary diseases, given the role this plays in supporting appropriate therapeutic intervention and improving health outcomes and quality of life.
