An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale struck the state of Guerrero in southwestern Mexico today.

Mexico's National Centre for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred) announced that the earthquake's epicentre was located approximately 45 kilometres northeast of the city of Acapulco, at a depth of around 15 kilometres. The tremor was felt by residents across wide areas of Guerrero state, as well as parts of the states of Michoacán and Oaxaca.

Mexican authorities announced the launch of field assessment operations, particularly in coastal and mountainous areas that may be at risk of landslides, however no reports of casualties or material damage have been received.
