In a new development, Israel shelled areas in southern Syria following an incursion into the Yarmouk Basin, drawing condemnation from the United Arab Emirates, the Syrian foreign ministry, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey, who described the move as a flagrant violation of sovereignty, with calls to adhere to the disengagement agreement.
The UAE condemned in the strongest terms the Israeli attacks, represented by incursions into Syrian territory in the governorates of Quneitra and Daraa and the targeting of the area with artillery shells, affirming its complete rejection of any violation of the sovereignty of the Syrian Arab Republic and any threat to its security and stability.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a communiqué that the ongoing Israeli incursions into Syrian territory constitute a flagrant violation of international law and of the 1974 disengagement agreement concluded between Syria and Israel, which Israel is obligated to respect.
The ministry stressed the UAE's firm position in support of Syria's stability and sovereignty over all its territory, its solidarity with the brotherly Syrian people, and its backing for all efforts aimed at realising their aspirations for security, peace, a dignified life, peaceful coexistence, and development.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the international community to take immediate action to halt the repeated attacks on Syrian territory, to stop escalation, and to end all actions liable to heighten tension in the region and threaten regional and international peace and security.
Following the advance of its armoured vehicles, Israeli artillery shelled the village of Abdin in the western Daraa countryside in southern Syria. The shelling came amid Israeli escalation, after local residents confronted an Israeli patrol comprising several armoured vehicles and blocked its path with stones earlier.
Shells fell on agricultural land belonging to Abdin, while military helicopters flew overhead and fired machine guns at the outskirts of the village and dropped flares over the Yarmouk Basin. A heavy displacement of residents from Abdin towards neighbouring areas was also reported, as tension persisted and Israeli aircraft continued to fly over the area and as far as the Quneitra countryside.
The Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the Israeli incursions and shelling in the south of the country, describing them as a flagrant violation of Syrian sovereignty and territorial integrity. Saudi Arabia also expressed its condemnation and denunciation of Israel's continued brazen violations in the region, most recently the incursions into Syrian territory and the targeting of the governorates of Quneitra and Daraa with artillery shells.
The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement:
