Qatar's Ministry of Interior has announced the death of a citizen after he was struck by shrapnel resulting from military operations in the region.
The ministry said in a statement on its official account on the X platform: "The Ministry of Interior clarifies that, in the course of routine monitoring and follow-up procedures for maritime vessels carried out by the General Directorate of Coastal and Border Security, one vessel carrying two persons was found to have not returned by its scheduled time. Maritime patrols immediately launched search operations for it from the evening of Saturday, 27 June 2026."
In the early hours of Sunday, 28 June 2026, the maritime search and rescue team of the General Directorate of Coastal and Border Security located the vessel. The search operations confirmed that a Qatari national had been killed as a result of injuries sustained from shrapnel caused by military operations in the region, while an Arab-national resident was injured and transferred for medical treatment; his condition is stable.
Qatar's Ministry of Interior extended its deepest condolences and sincere sympathies to the family of the deceased, praying that Almighty God grant him abundant mercy and admit him to His vast paradise, and that He grant the injured a speedy recovery. The ministry affirmed that it will continue to complete procedures and investigations into the incident in accordance with the approved legal frameworks.
