Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have announced their agreement to open safe corridors for civilians in the city of Al-Obeid, and their readiness to continue coordination and dialogue with the United States, the United Kingdom, and the European Union, as well as international and regional partners, to reach urgent measures guaranteeing the protection of civilians and alleviating their suffering, under the supervision of the international community and the African Union.

A political body affiliated with the RSF said in a statement issued yesterday that it is following with great interest the ongoing discussions with the international community regarding the protection of civilians, facilitating access to humanitarian aid, and opening safe corridors for civilians in the city of Al-Obeid, expressing its welcome for international efforts aimed at addressing the deteriorating humanitarian situation.

The statement affirmed the body's commitment to facilitating and securing unimpeded and non-discriminatory access to humanitarian assistance for those in need, in coordination with the United Nations, as well as providing the necessary guarantees for civilians to leave to safe areas.

The statement called on the international community to exert maximum pressure on the army to compel it to allow civilians to leave the city freely and to halt their forcible conscription.

The statement reiterated that reaching an immediate and unconditional humanitarian ceasefire represents the most effective means of protecting civilians.
