A US military delegation met with Lebanese Army commanders in Beirut on Tuesday to discuss the implementation of Israel's withdrawal from two pilot areas in southern Lebanon.
Under the framework agreement between the two sides, Israel is to withdraw gradually from areas in the south, with the Lebanese Army taking full control of the two pilot zones.
US Ambassador to Lebanon Michael Eisssa had briefed Lebanese President Joseph Aoun that the delegation's visit was aimed at determining the mechanism for implementing the framework agreement. The fifth round of talks between Lebanon and Israel is scheduled to begin in Rome on Wednesday and Thursday. Lebanon has made Israel's withdrawal from the two pilot areas a condition for its participation in that round.
