Tensions and the exchange of attacks between the United States and Iran have weakened the framework agreement between Israel and Lebanon, as bombardment returned to the south through strikes targeting the town of Deir Siryan–Al Taybeh and Nabatieh Al Fawqa, while Israel announced it was on full alert to resume offensive operations in Lebanon and Iran should the need arise.
Israel renewed its shelling of southern Lebanon, according to official media reports. The official National News Agency reported that an Israeli warplane strike targeted the vicinity of the town of Deir Siryan–Al Taybeh, while an Israeli drone strike targeted the town of Nabatieh Al Fawqa.
The Israeli army announced that it had attacked armed Hezbollah operatives after spotting them near the security zone, and that it had also destroyed a launcher belonging to the group.
In a subsequent statement, the Israeli army indicated that Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir had approved plans to continue operations in the security zone in accordance with the ceasefire agreement.
The Israeli army also announced in a statement the death of a soldier in combat in southern Lebanon, noting that he was a platoon commander killed in a confrontation with a Hezbollah operative after entering a building in the Deir Siryan area of southern Lebanon.
Eyal Zamir said the agreement signed with the Lebanese government is a historic and important accord, and that the Israeli army would abide by it and work to ensure its success.
He noted that the safety of Israeli forces is of paramount importance, according to Bloomberg News Agency. Zamir added that the forces hold operational control over the Beaufort Castle area and are equipped with all the necessary tools to weaken Hezbollah.
Zamir pointed out that the Israeli army is on high alert to carry out strikes in the event of a ceasefire violation. He stated that Israel is ready to resume offensive operations in both Lebanon and Iran, noting that Hezbollah is exhausted and its operatives are trapped underground.
