Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated yesterday the Strategic Command headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, known in media circles as the "Octagon."
The Octagon goes beyond the concept of traditional military headquarters, representing a miniature administrative and defence capital and an integrated centre for crisis management and smart control.
The headquarters also connects all sovereign state institutions via the latest communications technologies and artificial intelligence.
The facility is considered the state's fortified digital brain, integrating all operations centres under one roof within a fully isolated communications system secured against cyber threats.
The centre serves as the strategic command of the state and the headquarters of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces Command, spanning an area of 22,000 feddans, making it one of the largest military and administrative complexes in the world.
It is distinguished by a design comprising 8 octagonal buildings arranged in a circular formation housing the directorates and branches of the armed forces, with two command buildings at the centre linked to each other and to the outer buildings via internal corridors.
