The foreign ministers of the G7 nations and the High Representative of the European Union have called for an immediate cessation of hostilities in Sudan, urging the Rapid Support Forces and their allied groups to immediately halt any attacks threatening civilians and impeding humanitarian access in the city of Al-Ubayyid.
The international officials, in a statement issued today, expressed deep concern over serious violations of international humanitarian law in the regions of Kordofan, Darfur, and Blue Nile, and urged all parties, including the Sudanese Armed Forces, to protect civilians and facilitate the safe and unimpeded passage of humanitarian aid throughout the country.
The statement called for engagement in direct, good-faith negotiations, demanding that the Sudanese army cease its repeated rejection of de-escalation measures, and that the Rapid Support Forces implement their commitments in accordance with the Jeddah Declaration.
The nations also stressed the necessity of holding perpetrators of violations accountable and supporting victims, affirming their backing for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General's Personal Envoy, Pekka Haavisto, and international initiatives aimed at achieving a humanitarian ceasefire and inclusive, civilian-led political dialogue.
The international parties reaffirmed their firm commitment to Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, rejecting any efforts to partition it, and underscored their support for the Sudanese people's aspirations for democracy.
