Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa met today in Manama with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to discuss regional and international developments, foremost among them the evolution of events in the region, their implications for security and stability, and the efforts being made to address them. The two leaders exchanged views on these matters.
The Bahrain News Agency said President Al-Sisi renewed Egypt's condemnation and denunciation of Iranian attacks on Bahraini territory, describing them as a violation of state sovereignty, international law and norms, and a threat to international peace and security.
The Bahraini king and the Egyptian president reaffirmed the contents of UN Security Council Resolution 2817, which strongly condemned and demanded the immediate cessation of all attacks launched by Iran against the Arab Gulf states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the immediate and unconditional halt to any provocation or threats against neighbouring states, and the inherent right of the Gulf Cooperation Council states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to defend themselves against attacks launched by Iran.
They stressed the utmost importance of halting Iran's threats to disrupt freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz — a vital international corridor for the transportation of energy and global trade — in violation of international law and the law of the sea, affirming that the protection of maritime passages is a shared international responsibility requiring the cooperation of all parties in the region and the world.
Both sides affirmed their commitment to continuing consultations on various issues in light of the common challenges facing the region.
