Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs Dr Badr Abdelatty have affirmed the importance of developing the joint Arab action framework and strengthening coordination among Arab states to address regional and international challenges.

This came during two meetings held by the Secretary-General today at the headquarters of the Arab League General Secretariat — the first with the Egyptian foreign minister and the second with the heads and directors of specialised Arab organisations — during which he presented his vision for the priorities of the coming period. He stressed that the accelerating developments and growing challenges facing the region necessitate a reassessment and development of working methods to keep pace with regional and international changes and enhance the efficiency of the joint Arab action framework.

Dr Badr Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's commitment to providing full support to the Secretary-General and his vision for developing the working mechanisms within the Arab League, proceeding from Egypt's pivotal role as the encompassing framework for joint Arab action. He underlined that the challenges facing Arab states require greater solidarity and cohesion among them.

The Secretary-General also called on the heads and directors of specialised Arab organisations to put forward practical and actionable ideas and initiatives that would contribute to enhancing the efficiency of the joint Arab action framework. They in turn affirmed their support for his vision and orientations for the coming period. Both sides agreed to intensify regular meetings to strengthen coordination and integration among joint Arab action institutions and to follow up on the implementation of joint programmes and activities.
