The Sultanate of Oman, in coordination with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), has made available the option of using a temporary maritime corridor for all ships, in accordance with the coordinates announced by the IMO and the competent Omani authorities, with ships wishing to transit required to coordinate with the IMO.
The Oman News Agency said this step stems from Oman's responsibility towards the Strait of Hormuz and its vital importance to the global economy, as well as the sultanate's firm commitment to the provisions of international law and the law of the sea, in a manner that guarantees freedom of navigation in the strait without imposing any transit fees.
It added that this measure also comes in line with the outcomes of diplomatic efforts and initiatives reached between the United States and Iran.
