Lebanon's Ministry of Health announced on Saturday that five people, including a child and a woman, were killed in Israeli strikes on the town of Sahmar in the east of the country, and that two Palestinians were killed in a strike on the Tyre area in the south.

The strikes occurred before a lull observed by an AFP correspondent at the end of the day, when an Israeli army official announced that orders had been received from the political level to halt hostilities with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, while continuing to operate "defensively."
