The United Arab Emirates has reaffirmed its firm position in support of a civilian path in Sudan, describing it as the only way to end the war and achieve peace, and stressing the importance of reaching an unconditional humanitarian truce and a permanent ceasefire.
His Excellency Sheikh Shakhbout bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State, speaking at a session on Sudan at the Oslo Forum, underscored the UAE's steadfast support for a comprehensive Sudanese civilian process as the sole means of ending the war and achieving lasting peace — one that would lead to the formation of an independent civilian government meeting the aspirations of the Sudanese people. He also emphasised the importance of reaching an unconditional humanitarian truce and a permanent ceasefire, and called for intensifying regional and international efforts to address the humanitarian repercussions of the crisis and respond to the needs of the Sudanese people.
In the latest developments on the ground in Sudan, the army's shelling of the vital Ardamata Bridge in West Darfur state — one of the most important arteries for the delivery of humanitarian aid and relief — drew widespread international condemnation.
The Sudanese army had on Tuesday struck the Ardamata Bridge with a drone. The bridge is considered the most vital corridor for transporting aid and humanitarian supplies to the Darfur and Kordofan regions.
