Scientists from the Pacific Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry, a branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, have succeeded in developing a compound from starfish that selectively affects blood clotting.
The research team used a starfish whose samples were collected from Peter the Great Bay in the Sea of Japan. The scientists were able to study the compound's chemical structure, and it was found that one of its most notable properties is its ability to inhibit the coagulation phase.
