With touches of cardamom and saffron, Emirati dishes have succeeded in drawing visitors to the 2026 Beijing International Book Fair, as the aromas rising from the local kitchen became an open invitation to discover another dimension of Emirati identity — one that carries within its details the stories of a place, the memory of heritage, and the warmth of hospitality. Emirati chef Arwa Lutah presented 6 varied items, including 3 savoury dishes and 3 desserts, all inspired by traditional Emirati flavours while presented in a contemporary style. The chef noted that some of these dishes had previously enjoyed wide popularity at earlier participations, prompting their reintroduction this year in response to visitor interest and to give a greater number of guests the opportunity to try them.

The Emirati food corner became a focal point for visitors eager to learn about the ingredients of the dishes, their preparation methods, and their connection to the local environment and social customs of the United Arab Emirates — a scene that reflected food's capacity to transcend mere tasting and become a means of introducing cultures and building bridges of communication between peoples.

The presence of Emirati cuisine forms part of the cultural programme accompanying the UAE's participation as Guest of Honour at the current edition of the Beijing International Book Fair, reaffirming that culture is not conveyed through words alone, but can also reach others through a flavour that preserves memory and carries the character of a place.
