Leading music industry bodies proposed a labelling system for content created with generative artificial intelligence on Thursday, hoping it will be widely adopted.
The initiative is led by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry and the Recording Industry Association of America, alongside the organisation that oversees the Grammy Awards.
Two classification labels have been proposed. The first, "AI Created", applies to cases in which artificial intelligence was used to generate all or most of the creative elements of a musical work.
This includes music "generated entirely through AI text prompts".
The second label, "AI Assisted", is used for musical works that include a human contribution to the creative process.
