US box office data indicates that the 2026 summer movie season is delivering a strong performance that exceeds expectations, boosting the prospects of the film industry surpassing $10 billion in revenues for the first time since the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to the indicators, summer season revenues have reached approximately $1.8 billion to date, falling within just 2% of 2019 levels.

This season stands out for an unusual start: rather than opening with a big action film or a superhero blockbuster, the first successes came from the Disney film The Devil Wears Prada 2 and the horror film Backrooms.

Toy Story 5 also boosted revenues after achieving a record-breaking opening of $160 million.
