Poetry by Dr. Mishal Al Turki

What reached me of you is enough — do not call out to me

I have left you, I implore you, go… and leave me be

How long must I conceal my sorrows from those who love me

My joy that shows, my wound that hides — both within me

Enough, I am weary, and what has passed is enough for me

The road is treacherous, and the weight of my dreams has worn me

Do not hope that longing for your homeland will carry me

That was before life and I had weathered one another, you and me

Once, hearing of your sorrows would bring tears to my eyes

Yet today your tears no longer stir anything in me

Even the love that once ruled my very veins entirely

I now command its will, after it once commanded me

When in doubt, I rise and take counsel with only me

No one any longer shares in what lies deepest within me

And no right of mine was lost that I did not reclaim with my own two hands, freely

What once threw me into confusion no longer troubles me

I come to the whirlpool of memory on my own two feet, willingly

Yet I dare the remnants of longing to ever catch up with me

Since loving you, everything inside me has changed completely

I broke with the path that had nearly destroyed me

What once made me weep now makes me laugh with glee

And what once made me laugh now brings me to tears bitterly..!

Enough — and what reached me of you is sufficient for me

Since your love has left me, go… and leave me be
