In an era of accelerating digital platforms and cross-border narratives, cultural content creation has emerged as one of the most influential tools in shaping the public image of nations and reinforcing their civilisational presence. Amid the sweeping transformations reshaping the global media landscape, the ability to craft a cultural narrative that reflects the distinctiveness of societies and conveys their values to the world has become a central challenge for cultural institutions and content creators alike — particularly within a digital environment that has imposed new patterns of reception and engagement, and made human stories and creative storytelling two essential means of anchoring national identity and strengthening cultural presence in a fiercely competitive global space.

Speaking to Al Bayan on the sidelines of the panel discussion "How do we tell Dubai's story to the world?", held recently at the Union Museum in Dubai as part of the "Cultural Content Creators" programme — organised in collaboration between the Dubai Press Club and Dubai Culture — Hala Badri, Director General of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), affirmed that the success of cultural content in the digital age is not measured solely by its reach, but by its capacity to deliver authentic and inspiring narratives rooted in local reality while touching on shared human values. She noted that projecting the Emirati identity in the digital space requires a conscious deployment of technology and artificial intelligence tools to enhance Dubai's global cultural presence while preserving the human dimension in storytelling.

Badri stressed the heavy responsibility borne by cultural content creators, emphasising the necessity of upholding honesty and credibility when producing knowledge-based and creative material, alongside remaining closely attuned to people, their concerns, and their aspirations.

She explained that merely presenting cultural or historical information in traditional formats is no longer sufficient to attract audiences, noting that today's recipients seek content that resonates emotionally, connects with their daily experiences, and engages with real-life stories and their human dimensions that reflect the spirit and culture of a place.

She underlined the importance of leveraging modern digital platforms to reach diverse segments of society — particularly young people, who engage with cultural content through varied formats and approaches dictated by the nature of each platform, whether Instagram, YouTube, or TikTok. She called for the production of purposeful, realistic content capable of transforming everyday details into inspiring stories that transcend geographic boundaries and reach a global audience.

The Director General of Dubai Culture stressed that Dubai's hallmark cultural diversity and coexistence among different nationalities provides content creators with a vast space from which to draw stories and experiences capable of speaking to a global audience.

She pointed out that shared human values — such as mutual respect for cultures, together with the generosity and hospitality that characterise the Emirati experience — constitute a universal language that transcends cultural barriers. She emphasised the importance of involving residents from diverse backgrounds in content creation and in participation in local events and seasons, thereby broadening the circle of influence and enhancing the reach of cultural messages to the world.

Badri affirmed the importance of employing digital tools and artificial intelligence technologies in narrating the success story of Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, while stressing at the same time that this must be done within a framework of responsibility and integrity.

She called on content creators to treat artificial intelligence as a supporting tool for creative work, not a substitute for it, warning against allowing such technologies to dictate the direction of storytelling or push towards dramatic exaggeration that could strip a story of its authenticity. She affirmed that preserving credibility and the human dimension remains the fundamental pillar of any content capable of achieving lasting impact.
