Teyana Taylor was among the top winners on Sunday at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards, which honours Black actors, singers and sports stars.

The star of A Thousand and One took home 4 awards, including the special non-competitive Icon of the Year prize, presented by singer Janet Jackson. She also won Fashion Icon, Best Actress, and Film Director of the Year for the short film Escape Room.

Accepting the Icon of the Year award, Taylor said: "I have worked hard for 20 years for this. So I do not accept what I have earned with arrogance, but with gratitude." BET describes the award as a tribute to those who have made contributions in music, entertainment, and community impact. The ceremony was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.

Music industry executive Sylvia Rhone also won the Ultimate Icon award, given to individuals who leave a lasting mark throughout their career in the entertainment industry and the Black community. Cardi B won Best Hip Hop Artist, and Lauryn Hill received the Living Legend Icon award, which was presented for the first time.
