Zayed National Museum, in collaboration with Emirates Post, has unveiled a collection of commemorative stamps celebrating the opening of the United Arab Emirates' national museum and honouring the enduring legacy of the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
The limited-edition collection highlights a carefully selected range of artefacts from Zayed National Museum's holdings and a historic photograph of Sheikh Zayed, reflecting the cultural heritage and long history of the United Arab Emirates. The collection was launched at a special ceremony at Zayed National Museum.
Dr Peter Magee, Director of Zayed National Museum, said: "This commemorative stamp collection offers a distinctive opportunity to share the stories held within Zayed National Museum's collection with audiences in the UAE and beyond..."
The limited edition comprises 5,000 stamp sheets, each containing five postal stamps dedicated to Zayed National Museum, showcasing artefacts of historical significance and archival images documenting the story of the United Arab Emirates. Among the most notable is an iconic photograph of Sheikh Zayed taken by renowned French photojournalist Jacques Bourlon in 1974, alongside a khanjar symbolising Emirati identity and tradition.
The commemorative stamps also focus on a selection of artefacts including a cup engraved with the image of a falaj, discovered in a tomb at Hili in the Al Ain region; a necklace dating to the 1930s; and a ceramic incense burner found at the archaeological site of Badah bint Saoud. Together, these artefacts embody thousands of years of human history in the United Arab Emirates, reflecting the traditions and innovation that have shaped the nation's identity across centuries.
