The Al-Mutanabbi Literary Award for Short Story has announced the results of its current-year edition, with Syrian writer and poet Sarab Ghanem taking first place. Ghanem has also won Iraq's Uruk Award for Short Story.

The winners are set to be honoured in the Egyptian capital Cairo during July, at a literary celebration bringing together a select group of Arab writers and intellectuals.

Sarab Ghanem had previously won second place in the 27th edition of the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity for her short story collection "Hair Tie", in addition to her participation in a number of cultural and literary events celebrating her creative work both inside and outside the United Arab Emirates.
