Researchers at Pennsylvania State University have developed a technology to convert plastic bottles into synthetic graphite, a material used in the manufacture of electric vehicle batteries and mobile phones.
The team succeeded in converting PET plastic into pure graphite with distinctive properties. The technology relies on heating the plastic together with a quantity of graphene oxide, which rearranges the carbon atoms and converts them into graphite.
