Final energy consumption in the European Union's services sector rose 1.7% in 2024 to reach 4,971 petajoules, driven by increased activity in the trade, health, and hospitality sectors.
Electricity and natural gas maintained their positions as the sector's two primary energy sources. The services sector continues to account for more than one-eighth of total energy consumption in the European Union, with electricity and natural gas remaining dominant, while wholesale and retail trade leads the list of the most energy-intensive activities within the sector.
