The United Arab Emirates has welcomed the decision by the United States government to upgrade the UAE to the A5 tier in its export control system. His Excellency Yousef Al Otaiba, Minister of State and UAE Ambassador to the United States, said in a statement: "This decision affirms and reinforces decades of deep, trusted cooperation between the UAE and the United States in the areas of technology, security, trade, and investment."
The statement added: "Across six successive US presidential administrations, the UAE has established itself as one of America's most committed and reliable partners. In 2024, the United States designated the UAE a Major Defense Partner, reflecting the depth of trust that characterises the bilateral relationship between the two countries."
The statement continued: "The UAE is the largest trading partner of the United States and its primary export destination in the Middle East and North Africa region. The United States also achieves a trade surplus with the UAE of $23.8 billion, making it the fourth-largest US trade surplus in the world. The United States has also extended its trust to the UAE and its companies to acquire American civilian nuclear energy technologies and to deploy the most advanced and cutting-edge US defence systems."
The statement affirmed that this decision opens new horizons for joint research and development, deepens technological cooperation, broadens the scope of trade, and strengthens the defence partnership, as the UAE looks forward to building on this shared foundation and working with the United States to entrench a more stable, secure, and prosperous future for the peoples of both nations.
