The governor of the Central Bank of Syria, Safwat Raslan, carried out the first electronic payment via a bank card at a shop in the city of Idlib, following the bank's decisions allowing banks and electronic payment companies to operate with global networks such as Visa and Mastercard.
The step forms part of broader developments and measures related to market integration and banking and financial system reform in the country, enabling residents and visitors to use both international and domestic bank cards to facilitate purchases and financial transfers.
Central Bank of Syria Governor Mohamed Safwat Raslan also met with Idlib Governor Mohamed Abdul Rahman to discuss the state of the banking sector in the province and the challenges facing banks and financial services provided to citizens.
