Asteroid that struck North Sea 43 million years ago triggered 100-metre tsunamis

Traces of an ancient asteroid impact have been found on the floor of the North Sea, believed to have triggered tsunamis reaching heights of around 100 metres.

The traces are known as the Silverpit crater. According to RT, the origin of the crater had remained a mystery for more than two decades. However, a new analysis has revealed that the crater was the result of an asteroid striking Earth 43 million years ago.
