A team of social workers in the Italian capital Rome is remotely monitoring the condition of elderly residents through a smart electronic bracelet that tracks heart rate and sleep patterns, and allows them to call for help in emergencies.
The device is part of a 400-million-euro (456 million dollar) elderly support plan launched by Rome's municipality last year with European Union funding from the post-Covid-19 pandemic recovery scheme, and currently covers around 700 people.
