Researchers from Perm Polytechnic University in Russia have explained that melanin, the pigment responsible for the colour of skin, hair and eyes, provides protection against ultraviolet rays and plays a role in the immune system of the human body.
According to Russia Today, melanin also carries a range of benefits and vital functions, chief among them the enhancement and strengthening of the visual system during embryonic development.
